I am on the computer a good portion of the day for design work, so printmaking is a refreshing, hands-on, tactile escape. I wanted to work with a theme that was playful, intuitive, and simple. Illustrating a two-character vignette of an animal stalking its prey seemed like a fun way to start. I began with a fox and chicken. One print led to the next, until I had a small collection!
This show features hand printed screen and relief prints of animals and their food. Scientifically speaking, predator-prey relationships show how energy is passed from creature to creature within a habitat or ecosystem.
My prints depict herbivores, scavengers, carnivores, woodland and sea creatures as well as urban wildlife. Exploring food chains and food webs has kept this simple theme interesting for me.

- Escapism is mental diversion by means of entertainment or recreation, as an "escape" from the perceived unpleasant or banal aspects of daily life. It can also be used as a term to define the actions people take to help relieve persisting feelings of depression or general sadness.

All of my previous works of art have revolved around intimacy, detail, accuracy; certain individuals, precision and what is accessible to the naked eye. When what one expects or yearns to indulge in visually, is left disclosed or isn’t provided – significant details, in absence, it leaves one responsible to engage with the artwork. Make what one wants of it. I want my viewers to let their own ideas evolve and unearth meaning to these works that pulse vacant details and lack information.
The hidden, the misunderstood; it leaves one wanting, needing, more.

At any rate, I hope you enjoy these paintings. I hope they make you smile or wonder or make a connection with you or make you look; tilt your head and make you want to physically move and view them from a different angle. Thank you, Gordon Scott.

Featuring the work of artist Matthew Mahon
Matthew Mahon, 31
Born: Bangor, North Wales, U.K.
Resides: Waterford, CT
Moved to the U.S. in 1997 @ 19 years of age
"The Main Focus of this work for me was to have a series of pieces that included the frame work just as much as the framed piece itself."
"I started each piece with the frame and tried to use a mixed array of materials including.. recycled furniture, vinyl, cloth, wood, spray paint and photography."
Gallery Perspective"We loved the show, Matt's work is refreshing. Elegantly simple, yet raw and personable. His photographs, all taken in Hawaii, do a fine job of imitating his individual perspective on life. The value of framing brought out the importance of each piece. Looking forward to seeing future work." - Cristin Gallagher

Opening Reception February 6th @ 6pm
Re-Opening "Valentine Eve Party" February 13th @ 6pm
Elaine is an artist who is in love with love. Her art exemplifies the questionable emotion in every way. Transforming her drawings into large prints onto a canvas fabric that delicately floats from the ceiling covering the walls of our own [aticc] gallery. The opening reception for Elaine was extremely well attended. Since her premiere "True Love" exhibit at the Emporium in Mystic, CT last year she has created a following. Of those that maybe share the same appreciation for all things "love". After walking into the gallery/ boutique you quickly realize you are walking into an installation that was created with much attention to detail.
Hope you can come by and enjoy this although short, well worth it exhibit!
Valentine's Day gift you say? Well Elaine Chung has not only dressed our gallery, she is sure to dress you! Tshirts that share the same images that hang on the wall. Valentine's Day cards that are so delicately unique, you will be sending an extreme amount of love to those you may miss. Also featuring decorated hat boxes made by Jillian Freyer, a box never looked so good!

In trying to write an “artist” statement for my first solo show I have decided it best to not and may just ramble for a bit. I tried to word it to not sound like a kook, I tried to dedicate it but always felt like I was leaving someone out. So fuck it. These are paintings, drawings, random ideas that I have had pop into my head that I decided to put out in one way or another, All in all, I would like to say thank you to the people who deserve it and to the music I listened to while making all of this. A special thank you goes out to Denny and Cristin for making all this possible. And then there was Knucklegrease.

Statement:To All The Girls... is an idea I've had for years. I never pursued it until now. I hate being boxed into a category, I prefer to be unpredictable. This project may raise a few eyebrows, but oh well. If you're not taking risk, you're not living.
"Opening night was a blast, and greatly received! Surprising to the sensitive eye, but intriguing to the wide minded. Pictures tell it all, stop by and check it out first hand"
- Cristin
Exhibit showing October 17th to November 17th, 2009

Exhibit showing September 12th to October 15, 2009
15 & 140-B Green Street, New London CT
Boston based illustrator SCOTT MONTEIRO and his partner in crime LIAM BOYLE are creating a comic about zombies. In Scott's words: "It is soooooo much more than that. This is our story. This is how people like us, our generation would react in the face of a crisis of this proportion. Will our slacker generation have what it takes to pull itself together in order to conquer this or will they fall prey their own inflated sense of self worth and misguided logic, tearing themselves apart in the process?
I’ll give you the tiniest of hints: both Liam and myself hate happy endings." This is a work in progress & the show reflects what is the beginning of a comic book or perhaps a graphic novel.
The story will be told between two galleries in New London directly across the street from each other, so when the work leaves you wanting more, there will be...
Both galleries will be open during the day with new merchandise for sale from t-shirts, bags, denim, hand sewn clothes from local designers and a special artist series from DAYS ON END.
